What is child arrangement?
Child arrangements refer to the decisions made regarding the care and upbringing of children following the separation or divorce of their parents. These arrangements encompass various aspects, including where the children will live, how much time they will spend with each parent, and how decisions regarding their education, health, and welfare will be made. Child arrangements directly impact the children and therefore it is vital that the parents are fully informed on the decisions they are making and what the effects of it are.
Things to consider
- Living Arrangements – One of the most important aspects of a child arrangement is deciding where the child will primarily be staying and how much time they will spend with each parent.
- Best Interest – Always consider the child’s age and preferences when deciding where they will stay and how time is split between parents.
- Flexibility – While the arrangement sets the terms, flexibility is needed as the child’s needs change.
- Parental Responsibilities – Clarify how decisions will be made about healthcare, education, and daily matters.

How long does it take?
The timeframe for how long child arrangements take vary depending on the circumstances of each case. Where parents can agree on the arrangements amicably, the overall process will not take long and can be completed between a couple of weeks to a couple of months to finalise all the documents.
In instances where a couple cannot agree, there may be other steps needed such as mediation or even court intervention. This will prolong the process considerably. Once our solicitors have been instructed and have begun on your case, we will be able to give you a more accurate estimation of your file’s timeframe.
